Widespread U.S. sanctions on Cuba, better known as the embargo, have come into the limelight since protests broke out in the island nation on July 11. Protesters want the Cuban regime to step down due to poor management of the economy, the coronavirus and its decades-long repression of the Cuban people. The Cuban regime has responded by suppressing the protests, cutting the internet, and blaming the U.S. embargo for all of Cuba's problems. So what does the embargo do? And is it worth keeping?
